Real Atlanta Restuarants: Where People in Atlanta Really Go to Eat
Manual’s Tavern. After your spouse has played softball with the office team, you may end up eating at Manuel’s. Imagine a French bistro, those funny French hats, baguettes, and heated political discussions. Now, subtract the French stuff and add chili dogs, beer, turn on a Braves game in the background and keep the heated political discussion. Chirac would be proud.
Einstein’s. This is Atlanta’s newer, hipper answer to Mary Mac’s. Kid’s, they’ve got sweet potato French fries. Don’t make me tell you that twice. The huge patio is a good place to enjoy a meal and be seen.
Dailey’s. So many people I know have eaten here, including yours truly. It’s a little more expensive that the average Atlanta fair, but you can’t eat at Chik-Fil-A every meal now can you? The food is good, the service is good, and they have a nice desert case. You can’t knock a place with a nice desert case.
Maggiano’s. No grits or chitlins here. This chain Italian restaurant draws a crowd, so make a reservation or go early. If you eat family style, you will go home full and happy.
Ted’s Montana Grill. All the restaurants I’ve listed so far belong to someone or some family, so I shouldn’t leave Ted’s off the list. Bison burgers are served. Please don’t confuse this place with “The Ted.” Same guy, but one’s a restaurant and other’s our baseball stadium. Get it straight.
Café Intermezzo. This is where your sugar daddy takes you when his wife is out of town. They have food, but skip it. Come here after a dinner and get a big cup of something with schlag in it. That’s German for homemade whipped cream. Two of Atlanta’s best dessert case. Yes, Two! One is the normal sweet stuff and the other is all chocolate desserts. A chocolate dessert case, you say? Have I gone mad? Nope. Life should be this good.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention two high frequency Atlanta eateries. Mellow Mushroom Pizza and The Vortex. Real Atlantans eat at these places so often, we don’t even notice the tattooed and pierced servers. Pizza, beer, hamburgers, and tater tots = happiness.
